Drama Review-Reflection of Moral Values in 'Dushman e Jaan'

Updated: Sep 22, 2020

'Dusman e Jaan' is a drama of moral values that should be endorsed by our society.

Every episode provoked me to share my thoughts about it and finally, I mustered up the courage and started writing. I believe we should applaud the dramas that contribute to reformation of the society. It's one of the dramas which has shown some real characters with goodness inside them. Our drama industry must use its power with the wisdom not just for making money.

I will start with the hero of the drama, named Hatim. He just reminded me of the idea of the tragic hero that was presented by Aristotle in his book,'Poetics'. Hatim belongs to the elite class where freedom does no good. He is arrogant and I believe it's his tragic flaw because it leads him to disaster. The writer has beautifully shown the climax that results in the awakening of Hatim's conscience. He feels guilty for everything that has happened to Ramsha though he is not directly responsible. It was his hard luck that Ramsha couldn't reach home otherwise if she had reached safely nothing would have pinched Hatim internally.

Though his character as a son is not acceptable(his parents owe this burden) yet as a husband, he is a role model. The way he treats his wife is simply commendable. He has learned this from his father who doesn't honor his mother. It seems that he is trying to quench his thirst for family affection which he hasn't got himself. I loved the scene where he didn't accuse his wife when he noticed her cousin had visited and she concealed it. Usually, in our society, any such scene just results in the bashing of the woman by her husband because there are trust issues.

The way he stands for the respect of his wife is also praiseworthy. Some of you may disagree with me as he misbehaved with his father and he left them for his wife. But, if you hold unbiased observation, you must admit that it's the fault of his parents who didn't raise him properly as they were engrossed in their business.

Later on, the evolution of Mr.Kamal after the birth of his grandson was very near to reality. His lovely smile on seeing his heir was amazing and his changed positive behavior with his daughter in law, Rubab made our hearts soft towards him. This is how we humans are! Rubab also sets an example by forgiving her father in law and showing care to him. Another character that has won my heart, is Fizza, Hatim's mother. She realizes her poor role as a mother and tries to compensate it by showering love upon her son. As a mother in law, she is an extraordinary example as most of the dramas just highlight the negative side of this relation.

Overall, the drama is a complete success; its story is far different from typical desi dramas. There is no love triangle. Although there are some negative characters like Rubab's aunt and her daughter in law yet they are a realistic depiction of our society. Such characters are overshadowed by the positive characters. I could write more about Ramsha's struggle for family and her father's trust upon his daughters but I'm winding it up for now.

I hope you have enjoyed this review and share your opinion about 'Dushman e Jaan'.
